The staff, directors, and filmmakers of MyMovies.Africa™ have announced the postponement of their upcoming Watch Party.

The decision comes in response to the recent tragic loss of lives and mass hospitalisations that have gripped the nation over the past two weeks following protests against the finance bill 2024.

In a statement seen by KBC Digital, the company said: “Due to the unacceptable loss of lives and mass hospitalisations over the last 2 weeks, the staff, directors and filmmakers of MyMovies.Africa don’t feel it’s appropriate to hold our watch party this Saturday, June 29, as planned. Instead, we are in mourning and calling for justice for all victims.”

The event, known as #WeWatchKenyan with MyMovies.Africa™ aims to promote local films and content, fostering a community of Kenyan creatives dedicated to supporting their industry.

The watch party has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Out Reality, The Mall (basement), Westlands, Nairobi.

The rescheduled event will feature two short films:

Influenced: This film delves into the glamorous yet fragile world of influencer couple Ben (George Waweru) and Kay (Ciku Waithaka).

The narrative explores the unravelling of their picture-perfect life during a pivotal shoot, revealing the raw emotions behind their curated image.

Teka: This intense story follows Amani (Nick Olwah), who is burdened by debt and kidnaps social media influencer Hope (Amina Hussein).

Their encounter evolves into a gripping tale of vulnerability and unexpected connection.

Tickets for the September event are currently on sale, with only 80 seats available. Attendees can purchase tickets here.

Customers who had already bought tickets for the June event will be contacted to transfer their tickets to the new date.
