NCIC summons MP Farah Maalim over controversial Gen-Z remarks

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Daadab MP Farah Maalim after a viral video of him making inflammatory statements against young protesters surfaced.

In the video, the MP can be heard saying he would have massacred 5,000 Gen Z protesters for attempting to overthrow the government during the recent anti-tax protests.

The lawmaker is expected to appear before the Commission on Thursday at 11 AM at its offices in Nairobi.

According to the NCIC, the utterances are likely to incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence, or discrimination and affect harmonious coexistence between groups of different political affiliations in Kenya.

“The Commission is investigating utterances made by the MP in Somali language, on the Gen Z demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024,” stated NCIC.

“Hon. Farah Maalim is required to appear before the Commission to assist with the ongoing investigations. Failure to appear in person at the designated place, date, and time is an offense as stipulated under Section 63 (c) read with Section 63 (e) of the NCI Act.”

The MP, however, distanced himself from the video, saying it has been edited and the remarks made were not his original words.
