Okutoyi misses out on Olympics,promises to bounce back

The Kenya Tennis ace Angela Okutoyi will not be featuring in the Paris Olympic games as highly anticipated.

Okutoyi needed to meet the 400 mark according to the selection criteria but her ranking stands at 495.

‘’I did not meet the 400 ranking but am currently at 495’’ she wrote

Tennis Kenya had lobbied for her to be considered on the univerality slot but it was not to be according to the entries released for the Olympics by the International Tennis Federation.

The verdict came out on July 2nd and despite reports that Africa was backing the appeal ,Okutoyi missed out on the final entry for the Olympic games

An emotional Angela Okutoyi who is an African champion said she had given it all to qualify for her first Olympic games but will hope it works out in the next Olympics in 2028.

‘’writing this with mixed emotions,but first I thank God,for always being here with me,It’s been tough to even reach where I am now and one of my many ultimate goals was to see myself playing at the Olympic Games and I was really setting my eyes on this one after missing the 2020 Tokyo Olympics’’,Okutoyi wrote on her social medial pages

The men’s and women’s singles entries are headed by top seeds Jannik Sinner of Italy, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, Iga Swiatek of Poland and Coco Gauff of the USA.

The Olympic Tennis tournament will be held on clay at the Roland-Garros stadium over nine days from Saturday the 27th of July to 4th of August.
