Omanyala to lead team Kenya in hunt for Olympic slot at the Bahamas World Relays

The Bahamas championships will consist of two rounds of Olympic qualification before the finals set for early Monday.

Kenya will target an Olympic qualification mark at the 6th World Relays, set for tomorrow and Sunday in the Bahamas.

Kenya has a formidable team for the 4x400m and the 4x100m men in the Bahamas championships, with the top 14 teams in the ranking booking direct tickets for the Olympic games set for July 26 and August 11 in Paris, France.

The men’s 4x100m relay, which will be anchored by the 100-meter fastest man in Africa, Ferdinand Omanyala, will also consist of Mark Otieno,Samuel Waweru,Hesbon Ochieng, Mike Mokamba, and Meshack Babu.

The team is ranked 38th in the world, while their 4x400m male counterparts are ranked 50th, with the top 14 at the Nassau Bahamas Championships earning direct tickets to the summer Olympic games.

Boniface Mweresa,Wiseman Were,Zablon Ekwam, and Moitalel Mpoke will lead the 4x400m team.

The 4x400m women will have a daunting task to grab an Olympic slot as they are ranked 83rd in the world.

The team, which was dealt a major blow following the late withdrawal of World 800m champion Mary Moraa, now consists of Vanice Kerubo, Joan Cherono,Rahab Wanjiru,Jackline Nanjala, Veronicah Mutua, and Diana Chebet.
