A middle aged woman has died on the spot while her two children escaped death after a four Storey building under construction collapsed at Karia village Kirinyaga Central Constituency.
One of the floors of the building hit the bedroom in which the woman was sleeping killing her.
Residents managed to help the children in the morning incident who were sleeping in a separate room in their three-bedroom house.
Kirinyaga county Security team led by County Police Commander Andrew Naibei said the multi agency team is investigating the incident adding that a manhunt for the owner of the building is underway.
Deputy Governor David Githanda who together with the members of the County Disaster Preparedness and Response Committee visited the scene, said the county had deployed structural engineers to the site to inspect the structure so as to establish the cause of the collapse.
He said the incident occurred when the building under construction fell on the deceased’s house which bordered each other.
The body was taken to the Kerugoya Level Five Hospital Mortuary.
