President William Ruto is now asking young politicians in the United Democratic Alliance to tone down their ambitions and politicking that has rubbed his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua the wrong way, and focus on preaching unity of purpose.
The President who spoke in Nakuru during celebrations to launch a Sacco for the Akorino, said there would be time for the young political leaders to take over leadership of the country, noting, they were still under mentorship.
President Ruto also defending his reasons for picking Gachagua as his deputy, despite the push to pick a young leader when he was looking for a running mate in the run up to the 2022 elections.
The president’s sentiments coming at a time his party – UDA – has been split in factions with his deputy Gachagua coming under fire from a section of leaders in Rift Valley, Western and Mt. Kenya.
According to President Ruto, focus now should be on delivering for Kenyans.
Gachagua insisting on spearheading unity in Mt Kenya, noting, as much as there is a push for unity, it must be akin to the UDA mantra of bottom – up, thus, he should not be castigated for preaching the gospel in his Mt. Kenya backyard.
Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki saying he would pull all stops to support President William Ruto and his administration, saying he would not be drawn into a perceived war between the president and his deputy.
Governor Njuki saying most politicians in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term were forced to make tough decisions out of a war that split their Jubilee party.
According to governor Njuki, he would not “go back to the bush this time round” by joining a call for unity in Mt. Kenya, yet the president had not shown any sign of turning his back on the people who overwhelmingly voted for him in the elections.
Njuki also poking holes into the push for the one man, one vote, one shilling debate, saying Tharaka Nithi stood to lose if the mantra is adopted.
The second term Governor now calling for a formula that would benefit all counties by at least setting a minimum allocation of the sharable revenue before going into any other parameters for consideration.
There has been a message for reconciliation for the President and his deputy from most leaders who spoke at the Nakuru function with most alluding to a bleak future if unity in the party and an end to squabbles was not prioritized.
