The Principal Secretary of the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services Julius Bitok has announced the opening of a new Immigration office in Bungoma.

Speaking during Madaraka Day media briefing on Friday, Bitok revealed that President William Ruto will launch the office later this afternoon.

The office will serve four counties from the western region including Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega and Transnzoia.

Bitok further stated that the office will offer various immigration services including the issuing of passports.

“For the first time we are opening a Bungoma Immigration office that will serve at least 5million people from the western part of Kenya,” said Bitok.

On matters of passport backlog, the PS disclosed that the government has acquired two new machines which have the ability to print 500 passports per hour.

“We no longer have a backlog for passports. All passports are available and we are now able to process passports within 14 days of application,” he stated.

The PS urged Kenyans to utilise the eCitizen portal to access all government services even as government targets to collect Ksh2 billion daily revenue from the platform.

“At least 300,000 people are visiting the ecitizen platform to obtain services and we are collecting more than Ksh700 million daily revenue. Our target to collect Ksh2 billion per day and Ksh1.4 trillion per year,” said Bitok.
