Team AK 44 quest for glory at this weekends Rhino Charge received a boost after KCB & NBK handed them a total of Ksh. 10 million in sponsorship.
The AK44 team is led by Adil Khawaja.
Adil Khawaja was ecstatic following the sponsorship promising to bring home the title.
“I want to thank KCB for this sponsorship, as we all know, motorsports is an expensive sports therefore, teams need partners to come onboard to enable them compete at various events. We have prepared well for the showpiece and I want to assure my fans that we will bring the title home,” noted Khawaja.
This years event,35th edition has attracted a total of 64 teams.
Notable entrants include Ian Duncan, Eddy Verbeek, Gurmeet Mehta, Nicholas Foley, and Graham Mckittrick.
Rosalind Gichuru,KCB Group Director Marketing and Communications, speaking while unveiling the sponsorship expressed the commitment of the bank in supporting motorsports.
“We are deliberate about elevating motorsports to elite levels in the country, this is why we have chaneled billions of shillings to the sport over the years. The competition is also geared towards raising funds to conserve the environment which is in line with our sustainability agenda.”
Competing vehicles will be scrutinised on May 31, 2024 before the main event a day later. Winners are set to be awarded on Sunday.
The 4×4 off-road competition,Rhino charge, is held to raise funds for the conservation of some of the country’s water catchment areas.
Since its inception in 1989, Rhino Charge has raised over KShs. 2billion that has gone into conservation of Mt. Kenya, Aberdares, South Western Mau and Mount Eburu in the Mau Forests Complex and Kakamega Forest.
