Transport Principal Secretary Mohamed Daghar has lauded KPA’s initiatives which have seen the Port of Mombasa continue to record substantial annual increase in cargo throughput.

Speaking Saturday at the KPA New Conference Room at a consultative meeting of the National Assembly Committee on Implementation led by Chairman Raphael Wanjala, the PS noted the initiatives had resulted to reduced ship waiting time and vessel turnaround time.

“These initiatives include the expansion of container handling berths, increased automation of services, acquisition of modern ship and cargo handling equipment and improved partnerships with key government agencies and stakeholders,” he added.

Daghar further observed that KPA’s capacity expansion of container berths has positioned the Port of Mombasa to handle larger vessels bolstering its efficiency.

“The collective impact of these strategic initiatives has not only propelled the Port of Mombasa towards improved efficiency but has also positioned it as a pivotal hub for maritime trade in the region,” he added.

The Parliamentary Committee was on an inspection tour of the Kenya Ports Authority’s projects in Mombasa including Grain Handling facilities and to follow up on KPA’s optimization of revenue in grain handling services at the Port.

KPA Managing Director Capt. William Ruto told the meeting that the Authority’s revenue has continued to grow tremendously because of digitalization which has led to increased efficiency and productivity.
