UDA to conduct party grassroots elections late this month

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has resolved to conduct grassroots elections in four phases this year.

On Tuesday, after President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and top party’s officials and both Majority Leaders in the National Assembly and the Senate chaired a meeting of the National Steering Committee (NSC) on the party grassroots elections resolved to hold the grassroots election in four phases, starting 26th of this month.

The first phase slated for 26th this month will cover seven counties including Nairobi, while phase two covering among others Mombasa and Uasin Gishu is set for 22nd June.

Both phase three and four will be held on 10th and 24th August.

Phase one of the elections slated for 26th April, will be conducted in seven counties that include Nairobi, Narok, West-Pokot, Busia, Homabay, Isiolo, and Garrissa.

Phase two of the elections set for 22nd of June will include 13 counties comprising of Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua and Machakos among others. Phase three of the exercise slated for 10th August will cover 15 counties including Kiambu, Embu and Kericho among others.

The final Phase 4 set for 24th August will cover among others Nyeri, Nakuru, Bomet, and Kirinyaga counties.

The ruling United Democratic Alliance party has also settled on KRA chairperson Anthony Mwaura to lead a seven-member National Elections Board, Joy Mdivo to chair its nine-member Electoral Disputes Resolution Committee and Rebecca Tonkei as the Chairperson of Internal Dispute Resolution Committee of seven members.
